Success Story: Jia Jones

Senior exercise science major triumphs through leadership and involvement

Jia Jones, a senior exercise science major through the School of Health & Human Sciences, is the prime example of an Adam W. Herbert Presidential Scholar. Throughout her undergraduate career, she held numerous leadership positions and reaped the benefits of being involved at IUPUI.

Growing up in Martinsville, Jones loved to play sports. She says her primary sport was basketball while also being involved in track, volleyball, and softball. She also has her black belt in taekwondo and played percussion in band for middle and high school!

While in high school, she attended the IUPUI Honors College JagDay and explored the Indianapolis campus and the Honors College. “I really liked the location. It’s close to family and I had a cousin that went here,” says Jones.

I liked the Honors College opportunities I read about, and the teacher to student ratio at IUPUI is smaller than bigger colleges. It’s a nice middle ground between IU and Purdue.
