IUPUI Major: Neuroscience, Pre-Physician Assistant

Q: Why did you choose IUPUI?

A: I chose IUPUI because of the incredible resources provided for my pre-professional career. I also love the city environment as it is lively and close to my hometown. I also really admired the amount of effort the staff of IUPUI puts into helping their students succeed. Another reason why IUPUI stood out to me was because I was able to familiarize myself with this school at a young age. I've had the chance to perform a dance at the campus and participate in many events at IUPUI including Brain Bee and ISCA. Along with that, I have participated in the STEM summer camp at IUPUI which allowed me to gain a new passion for medicine. These wonderful experiences at IUPUI sparked my interest in this school.

However, the main reason this school is important to me is because I hope to become a physician assistant. IUPUI's location allows pre-PA students to have so many opportunities for research and internships as the campus is close to many hospitals including Eskenazi, Riley, Simon Cancer, Methodist, St. Vincent, Peyton Manning, and University. In addition to being perfect for my future career, this school was also great for my major, neuroscience. I especially love that I can attend IUPUI yet still receive my degree in neuroscience from Purdue. Overall, this school met all my requirements for future endeavors.

Q: What does being a Bepko Scholar mean to you?

A: Being a Bepko Scholar means having a deep passion for service and the desire to help anyone in need. In school I hope to work towards my passion by being involved in many campus related services such as the VIDA, Riley Dance Marathon, and much more. A s a Bepko Scholar I would like to inspire other students to realize the importance of service and the good that can result from it. Personally, service has always been a big part of my life as I was introduced to it from a young age. Being born in India and moving to America helped me realize how there were many disadvantaged communities like India that needed help. This realization sparked my interest for service. Ever since, I have committed myself to serving as many people as I could through volunteering and being involved in plenty of non-profit organizations. All these years of service helped understand its beautiful purpose and how much everyone benefited from it. My love for passion has greatly developed as I learned to realize how much of a positive impact it had on my mental health. Providing help for others and seeing their response never failed to put a smile on my face. Learning how small actions could bring the biggest joy to peoples' lives gave me a purpose in life. So to me, being a Bepko Scholar means being there for as many people as you can to realize the impact service can have on your life and others.

Top two accomplishments in community service/volunteerism:

My junior year of high school, my friends and I started our own club in our high school to help raise funds for a non-profit organization known as Beyond Me Initiative. This organization raised money to create jobs and schools in countries with low-economy including Haiti and Gambia. The main goal was to promote education, so individuals could learn to earn for themselves instead of having to depend on donations. Through this club we were able to raise 10,000 books around the county to build a library in Gambia. In addition to this club, I was involved in student council for 9 years, Key Club for 4 years and National Honors Society for 2 years. Through my commitment in these clubs I was able to volunteer in at various events in my county.
